Doctoral studies in Ecology and Environmental Science

The doctorate school was established by the governmental decision of the Ministry of Education and Science in 2003. The most recent quality assessment was carried out by the Research Council of Lithuania in 2021. The doctorate study programme is largely oriented to coastal and marine environmental research and aquatic biology. The School is run by the Doctorate Committee responsible for general admission procedures, quality assurance, and public defense of the PhD Theses.

Programme is international and runs in English.

Including:

  • Four years of full-time state-funded studies, typically starting on November 1;
  • Three study courses (30 ECTS) during the first year of study;
  • Research results presented in at least two international conferences;
  • PhD thesis may be presented either as a monograph (two papers published in Clarivate Analytics (CA) indexed journals required with a PhD student being the main author in at least one paper) or as a collection of at least four CA publications (a PhD student is the first author in at least two papers);
  • Basic annual scholarship (net amount) includes €11 172 (1st study year) and €12 936 (2nd to 4th second year of study), support for travel, training, and basic consumables is approx. €11,000 (for 4 years); extra funding (project based) and exemptions depend on the call and selected topics (see specific conditions for a call topic).
